The ‘Salon de Refuse Olympique’ came about through a personal imperative to gather together creative and critical responses to the London Olympic development. The salon continued the work of Space studio’s Olympic Artist Forum and since 2007 I organised numerous events from film screenings onto the Olympic blue fence to gallery debates working with various partners on these from space studios to muf, tinag, publicworks, adaptive actions and Festival of Europe. These events led to new collaborations and networks. An article on the motivations of the Salon de Refuse can be seen here. The salons led directly to the production of the book The Art of Dissent: Adventures in London’s Olympic State co-edited with Isaac Marrero and during the book’s production I organised five further salons for contributors to meet, exchange and debate many of the central issues discussed throughout The Art of Dissent: Adventures in London’s Olympic State in venues around the future Olympic Park Salon essays can be downloaded on the Art of Dissent website.
